I try to balance affordability with making a living. This is difficult.
My base fee for short-term work varies based upon the nature of the work. My base fee is adjustable based upon ability to pay. I do some pro bono (free!) work, especially for non-profits. If you feel you may have difficulty paying, discuss it up front, and we'll work together to somehow solve your problem within your budget if possible. I barter for goods and services.
I discount my fees for long-term service agreements and longer-term contract work.
When working through another firm as a consultant, my rate is 80% of the client rate for the first 1,000 hours, 85% for the next 1,000 and 90% thereafter. I charge 1.5 times the base rate for overtime for all hours over the first 2,000 per year.
