It is a great thing to be part of a free country, where individuals control their own lives without the burdens of masters standing over them watching every move, telling them what they can and cannot do, say or think.
Of course, these days, there are some small sacrifices we make in this country, but compared to the outright slavery which still exists in the world, it is still a great and free nation of free individuals.
It’s no big thing that you cannot carry even a pocketknife on an airline—it guarantees that you will not be hijacked, certainly worth the small inconvenience.
And not being able to carry a firearm (or a taser for you who prefer nonlethal protection) or to wear armor against those who would use such weapons against you, is not a problem—the police will certainly protect you, even if they are not required to do so by law. Anyway, only people who intend harm would feel the need for protection.
Certainly you wouldn’t want to risk your life by not using safety equipment while driving, boating bicycling or any other potentially injurious activity, so it is a good idea to require such gear under threat of punishment—for your own protection, of course.
You certainly wouldn’t want any police officer to risk his life because he was unable to see into your vehicle either—after all, you have nothing to hide, only someone of ill intent would want privacy in their car.
Where would we be without government protection from becoming addicted to some recreational drug with no medical value? (What exactly is the medical value of nicotine, caffeine, or alcohol? —I can’t seem to find any.) Without threat of government regulation, we would all undoubtedly be addicts, like our great-great-grandparents were (when such things were legal.) Certainly jail is better than addiction.
God gave us free will, to decide our courses for good or ill, but it is obvious that people cannot be trusted to make important decisions on their own, coercion is obviously needed, or we are all doomed.
I understand that obesity is a major health problem in this country, accounting for an increasing percentage of “preventable deaths,” I expect a movement any day to regulate people’s caloric intake by law. And brush your teeth people, or we may have to arrest you for your own good.
It is a good thing to live in a free country, where a person’s mind and body are their own property, and they serve no master but themselves.
